Week 13-15 Summary22-Dec-23 11:40:23 AM
It's hard to believe there are only three weeks to go in the season. There are more Saturday games this week so the deadline for these two games is Saturday at 1:25pm PST. The rest of the picks are due at the regular Sunday at 8:55am PST deadline.
Well let's start the summary with the star of the show. Lauren Dong not only was our Week 15 weekly winner but the win vaulted her onto the top of our Overall leaderboard as well. Picking the right time to get hot. Longtime Gridiron faithfuls, Green Bay Packers Shareholder and Morg Madu were our Week 13 and Week 14 weekly winners respectively.
The biggest news of this segment was the Survivor Pools are ALL completed. Congratulations to Ball Hall Famous who is the only poolster not to fall victim to the mighty upset and will win the FULL amount of the Loser Pool prize pot. The Winner Pool saw a three way split between BC Lions, DangeRuss, and Gary Morrissey. The Second Chance Pool unfortunately finished in a 9-way tie as eight of them fell victim to the same upset.
The Overall standings are very tight as nobody is running away with it. As mentioned previously Lauren Dong is the leader but she is being chased by Viva Las Vegas, Rated R Superstars, (M)&(B) and Baby Got Dak. Remember the Top 20 and the end of the regular season win $$$.
The 2nd half H2H tournament is in the Quarterfinal Round and its filled with poolsters that struggled in the 1st half of the season (with a couple of exceptions). Nice when this happens. Good luck to (336) gvin vs (377) Coco-loco, (340) Mauls & Rucks vs (5) Lauren Dong, (498 Juan Trapero vs (279) GuamGirl, and (3) THE PROFESSOR 44 vs (235) Patrick Dupuis.
The League Play is also down to the Final 8. Baby Got Dak and Viva Las Vegas are both 1-0 and will square off this week with the winner being in the driver seat to advance to the Finals. Same goes in Group 2 as Indy with or without Luck and East Van Football are also both 1-0 and face each other with the winner being in good shape. Masset, Randrews52, THE PROFESSOR 44 and Geoff Manning still have a chance but a loss could rule them out of contention.
The Thursday Night category is nearing as there is no game in Week 18 so there are only two games left (Wk 16 & 17). PhillyMike continues to lead, opening up a 23 point lead. PurpleRiegn8, Brendan Mykle-Winkler and howboutdemCowboys have the best chance to catch him as they round out the Top 3 (and ties).
There are three Sunday Night games remaining (one each week) and Viva Las Vegas still hoods the top spot during this summary period. Bald Ricky is within 8 points so this lead is NOT safe. D.W., Matt Nielsen, Gary Morrissey and Shane S are ready to pounce on any hiccup the leaders can provide.
All three Monday games this week will count toward the Monday Night total but then there is only one game left towards the Monday Night stat after this week. Doug Wiens has clawed his way into the lead but this category is tight as 49ers are still in the hunt and only 13 points back. Kyle Beford, MileHighBlitz and Morg Madu have something to say as well.
Lauren Dong has opened up a 2 game lead in the Total Wins (154). CHINNER is in 2nd with Lucky Loggers just one back of them. After that there is a 9-way tie for 4th and you just know somebody is going to break out of this pack to make a charge.
Jim Dyste is now in the driver's seat in the Bang On category as they have opened up a 3 game lead. There are 8 poolster who have 3 or less Bang On's this entire season. Now saying it's impossible but he's looking good. Prv69 is currently in 2nd and Kbombers, Olave Garden and Sacks in the City are tied for 3rd and 4 back of the leader.
*** THE TOP 100 OVERALL QUALIFY FOR THE PLAYOFF POOL TO HAVE A CHANCE TO WIN MORE MONEY ***
This season, instead of rewarding the Top score of the season (since they already won weekly money) we are rewarding the poolster that has the best week that is used for their dropped week (only 17 of 18 weeks count). Currently, Jim Causier holds this prize in hand with a low score of 167.
Happy Holidays to you all and best of luck the rest of the season !!!!!!
Week 10-12 Summary30-Nov-23 06:13:04 PM
Two thirds of the way through the season. Crazy how football season flies.  Viva Las Vegas would like it to end very soon as they hold a slim lead Overall.  Followed closely behind by Gary Morrissey, Polly Pringle, Lauren Dong and (M)&(B).  Very compact up top.
The weekly winners of this chapter have done great. Week 10 Winner 3dressedupasa9 went 12/14 with a couple of Bang On's. Week 11 Winner, Scorpions, didn't have any Bang On's but going 13/14 in this league is fantastic. Saintsational, our Week 12 champ, now has the highest weekly total of the season (371) going 13/16 but with an impressive FIVE Bang On's.
We had three Thursday games this past week thanks to the US Turkey games. Shane S made the biggest move with 79 points and it vaulted him into a share of the top spot on Thursday Night picks with PhillyMike. Brendan Mykle-Winkler, GATWAL, and howboutdemCowboys round out the Top 5.
Viva Las Vegas's Overall lead is helped out by his Sunday Night picks as he is leading the Sunday Night category as well.  Throw up the X, D.W., Red Leader and Gary Morrissey are all within striking distance in the Top 5.
49ers continues to lead Monday Night category. The 49ers, MileHighBlitz and Viking pride all stumbled in Week 12 but were able to hold off Doug Wiens and Ginja Ninjas who jumped into the Top 5.
You need lots of winners to do well and these leaders are doing just that.  Lauren Dong and Lucky Loggers lead the pack followed very closely behind by VanCowboysFan.  CHINNER, Gary Morrissey and Viva Las Vegas are only two games back so anything can change.
As normal, the Bang On category is very tight. Jim Dyste and Kbombers lead the field.  Johnny Jarvis, and Prv69 are only one back in 3rd. Habsolutely Not, Juan Lledo, Nick Pausak, Olave Garden and Winging It!! are tied for 5th 2 games back.
The Survivor Pools are starting to get down to the nitty gritty.  There are only 17 remaining in the Winner Pool and 9 left in the Loser Pool.  The Second Chance Survivor Pool has quickly dropped to 28 remaining.  Not as easy as you thought it was right???
The H2H tournament has dwindled down to 32 poolsters. (3) THE PROFESSOR 44 is the highest seed remaining while the underdog specialist (511) Keystoners continues to give his opponents a false comfort level and continues his pursuit to the championship.
The League Play is gearing down with only 2 weeks remaining in this round robin portion but nobody has clinched their path to Round 3 as of yet.  This week can change things though.
Don't forget that the Top 100 Overall qualify for the playoffs to win even more money but stay out of the Bottom 5 to avoid relegation.
Good luck to you all.
Week 7-9 Summary07-Nov-23 06:01:41 PM
First of all, we have our final early football game being played in Germany this week.  Make sure you get that pick entered prior to the deadline.
I'd like to give a shout out to our three weekly winners for the past 3 weeks.  Congrats to LizBot, Brent Mooney and the Colorado Kid who all enjoyed successful weeks and will reap the benefits at the end of the season.
Since we've reached the halfway point of the season, we can now crown the First Half Head 2 Head Champion as (495) JOK FOG defeated (1) One Cheek Sneak 233-210 in the finals and earns the title of H2H Champion. (46) Jim Carpenter beat (165) The Electric Mayhem 195-135 in the consolation final and both earned more weight for their wallets.
The 2nd Half Tournament is all set up and ready to go so take a moment to see who you match up against for more action for more potential prizes at the end of the season.
Nobody is walking away with the Overall lead as the Top 44 are within 100 points of each other.  At the halfway point though it is Gary Morrissey who has the small lead over Tua Be Or Not Tua Be, THE PROFESSOR 44, Nav, Lauren Dong, Lucky Leprechaun, Michael Pettifer, Andy Hayton, Viva Las Vegas and Brendan Mykle-Winkler round out the Top 10.  Keep it up everyone.
The Bang On category is very tight knit as we have a three-way tie for the lead with many players only 1 or 2 games back.  Johnny Jarvis, Lyle Street and Nick Pausak all have 13 thus far after 9 weeks to hold down the 1st Half lead.
Lucky Loggers has a cushiony 2 game lead in the Winners category over Lauren Dong.  Many others in the chase though.
Beera Hayre has the jump on the field on Thursdays followed by Brendan Mykle-Winkler and GATWAL but this can quickly shuffle when the Turkey games are played in a couple of weeks.
The Sunday Night category is really close as one wrong pick and you can slide way down.  At the top of the playground is IckeyShufflin' followed closely behind by GJayhawks and Viva Las Vegas.
49ers regained the lead on Monday night but right on his heels is Viking pride.  Little bit of a gap between 2nd and 3rd but this is where Let The Liquor Do The Picking fell after his MNF loss this week after leading going into the week.
The Survivor Pools are starting to thin out.  The Winners side slightly came down from 153 to 104 while the Loser side dipped from 152 all the way down to 24.  The Second Chance Survivor pool allowed everyone to start from scratch again and 8 people said "Nah, thanks but no thanks" and didn't enter picks while 93 others lost right off the get go.
The League has started its 2nd round with 64 participants.  We'll have a clearer picture on who could advance at the next summary.
I hope you have enjoyed the first half of the season and start a surge to the top in the second half.  Good luck to everyone.
Second Chance Survivor Pool30-Oct-23 09:24:13 AM
Just a reminder to EVERYONE that a new contest starts next week. The Second Chance Survivor Pool starts. Just pick a winner AND a loser every week.
Sounds easy???? Here's the catch. You must win BOTH games to advance and you cannot select teams playing each other. Once you select a team to win OR lose, you cannot select them again to win OR lose.
Good luck to those that need a second chance.
Week 4-6 Summary18-Oct-23 08:57:36 PM
What??? No game in London this week....LOL Back to a regular schedule for now until we head to Germany in Week 9 so be ready.
Let's start the summary with our three weekly winners. Reid 'em and Weep tied the highest week thus far (one game on a bye week though) to win Week 6. Peepin Tomlins captured honours in Week 5 and even missed entering his Thursday night pick (Never Give Up). Week 4's winner was Viva Las Vegas who went 15 wins / 16 games to silence the others trying to chase her. Two of the three winners were ladies image.png.
Nobody has really taken off from the pack but currently it's Gary Morrissey in the lead by a nose over Top Shelf and Andy Hayton is a half length back.
The Most Winner leaders are all over 70% winning percentage which is great. Lauren Dong, Nick Pausak and Reiko Munro are tied for the lead with many others ready to pounce.
Habsolutely Not continues to lead the Bang On category accumulating a Bang On in every week thus far this season.
Sapphire the Husky tends to get off to a great start with her Thursday picks as she is staying on top at the checkpoint along with Beera Hayre followed closely behind by Brendan Mykle-Winkler in the Thursday night category.
Darrin Mitcham is enjoying his Sunday evening games sitting alone atop of the Sunday Night category. Peepin Tomlins and Red Leader are just waiting for a hiccup from Darrin to pass him.
Nobody is closing out the week better than Let The Liquor Do The Picking. He has the largest lead of any of the Night categories. 49ers were leading three weeks ago but are still in striking distance along with Gary Morrissey.
The Survivor Pools are still going strong even with no more undefeated teams in the NFL but there is still one winless team. Those Panthers will screw somebody over eventually....right? We've dropped from 336 winners down to 153 remaining. On the Losers side we've dropped from 308 to 152. Choosings are getting slimmer and slimmer though. The Second Chance Survivor Pool starts in Week 9 so for those waiting to get back in the Survivor world there are only two weeks to go.
We are now in the Quarter-Finals in the H2H tournament. This week's winners are guaranteed a Top 4 prize. My seedings are all over the map as my #1 seed One Cheek Sneak is still fighting battling #152 Philly Special but we also have a #495 seed JOK FOG learning the ropes very quickly and can advance to the semis but has to get past #247 Ripley's Believe It Ballers. The closest match up should be #173 Nav vs #165 The Electric Mayhem while the final match up features #46 Jim Carpenter taking on #363 Garoo. See the seeds are only a number.
I have a lot of scenarios to calculate for the League Play so I will just notify those who are still in contention by email group by group.
Good luck for your next 66.666667% of the season.
Week 1-3 Summary26-Sep-23 09:50:48 PM
All right poolsters !!!!!  Time to update all of you on what has transpired thus far.  For those not planning on reading this through, THE NEXT THREE WEEKS there are Sunday morning games across the pond.  All start times are listed as 6:30am PST so please make sure that pick is in prior to the start time.
First of all, let's congratulate our weekly winners thus far.  NindianaJones pulled out the Aaron Rodgers-less win on Monday night over the Bills to capture the Week 1 win.  JOK Chance was your week 2 winner thanks to the Steelers bounce back win from a lackluster Week 1 loss.  Terry Grayson was this week's winner selecting the Bengals to get their first win of the season.
You may or may not have noticed that the Overall standings doesn't have your total of all three weeks.  That's because we only count 17 of your 18 weeks removing your lowest scoring week.  It's easier to remove that week now for a more accurate race down the stretch so only everyone's best TWO week are calculated for the Overall standings at this point.  Tua Be Or Not Tua Be is the early leader finishing in 10th and 7th the last 2 weeks.
Tua Be Or Not Tua Be is also tied for the Most Wins with DangeRuss, Dwayne Guzak, Lund, Nick Pausak, Nopicknick and Patrick Dupuis.
Habsolutely Not appears to have the edge in the Bang On's this far accumulating 7 so far.
Sapphire the Husky and The Juice is Loose are great to get the week off to a fantastic start as they lead the way in the Thursday Night Category.
Terry Grayson's Bang On on Sunday evening helped pave the way not only for the weekly win but the lead in the Sunday Night category as well.
The San Francisco 49ers have finished strong in all three weeks so far but it's the Gridiron 49ers who stands alone as the strongest closer as they lead the Monday Night category.
The Survivor Pools have had an impact as well.  Out of the 512 poolsters. Only 336 remain in the Winner Pool and 308 left in the Losers. It was an early exit for "!", Angel Lostale, Hailmary902, John Fontaine, PurpleReign8, Sprox, Stymied, SueHawks and Terry Lostale as they threw all their eggs into the Opening Game of the Season as they chose both Kansas City and Detroit for the Winners and their Loser picks.  Unfortunately, they chose the wrong one for each and were ousted from both Pools after one game.  Don't worry the Second Chance Survivor Pool starts in Week 9.
The H2H tournament has narrowed the field down to the Final 64 and League play is almost halfway through the Round 1 round robin.
I hope you are all enjoying the pool so far.  I hope all your picks are winners.  Good luck.

Description of Prize Payouts05-Aug-23 04:14:56 PM
For those of you new to the pool and for those who didn't quite get it last season here is a breakdown of the types of standings and other ways to win money.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overall Standings
I've basically broken down how the points work in the rules (link to the left under Documents). The overall standings is the total of your points from your best 17 out of 18 weeks (you throw your worst week out the window, but it comes back later read on). The Top 20 at the end of the regular season win prize money. Any ties split the total prize money between the tied positions.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Weekly Results
This category is your total points from all of the games for the week. There is one weekly winner, one second place winner, one third place winner, and one fourth place winner each week and 18 weekly and runner up winners throughout the season. Any ties split the weekly winnings.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Highest Dropped Week
This is where your worst week of the season comes back into play. See how your worst week stacks up against your fellow participants. If you have the best worst week you actually win money for a bad week (it can't be too bad though).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Most Bang On's
Bang On's are predictions where you pick the correct team AND the correct spread. If you can average slightly over 1 per week you've done very well for yourself as they are tougher to come by as you would think. Whoever ends up with the 5 highest totals wins $$$ at seasons end.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Most Winners
So you were way off on your spreads throughout the season. You couldn't even come close, fear not as there is a category for you. Back to basics, just picking the winner of the most games by the time the season closes. Top 5 winners get to say "Show me the Money".
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thursday Night Scores
Commentators Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit with sideline reporter Haylee Hartung lead this nights scoring. Accumulate points on this evening and all the US Thanksgiving games throughout the season. Top 5 get paid here as well.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sunday Night Scores
Whenever you see Mike Tirico, Cris Collinsworth, and Melissa Stark on Sunday night is when this category kicks in. Add up all your Sunday night scores throughout the year and see if it earns you some cash. Yes, you guessed it, the Top 5 get paid.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Monday Night Scores
See Sunday Night Scores but replace Mike, Cris and Melissa with Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, and Lisa Salters.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Playoff Standings
The Gridiron Football Pool also rewards their Top Point getters with a bonus playoff round to win more money. The Top 100 at the end of the season qualify for the Playoffs (no more money required). You basically do the same as you have during the regular season by picking the team and spreads every week but as you start nearing the Super Bowl some people need to start taking chances with either wacky big spreads or pulling for a huge underdog to come through to snag victory out from underneath the leaders feet. Weird things happen but you're never safe until the Vince Lombardi trophy is raised. The Top 10 win money.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Head 2 Head Tournament
Do nothing more than enter your picks and enjoy the game. This little tournament gives you something else to pull for during the season. Starting in Week 1, you have a chance to be the last poolster standing. Each week you will be facing off against someone else in the pool. You will be able to see their picks after the deadline and then you can compare which games you have different and cheer on those games. Win and you move on, lose and you're done. The Top 4 winners win money (if you make the Top 4 the losers in the semi-finals play each other for 3rd place). Don't worry if you get knocked out early because we start all over again in Week 9 and do it again one more time.
Here is the tie breaker procedure:
1. Most wins
2. Most Bang On's
3. Best score in prior week
4. Best score 2 weeks prior etc.
Please click on the Display Head 2 Head link to the left for the bracket and find yourself and who you face (coming once participants are finalized).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
League Play is returning. With 512 poolsters, we will start the season with 64 groups of 8. Everybody plays everyone in their division once and after 7 weeks whoever is on top of their division will move onto the next round. Starting Week 8, the 64 division leaders will be reseeded and broken into 8 divisions of 8 poolsters and once again everybody plays everybody in their division once. Division winners will move onto the Round of 8 and play single elimination bracket for the final 3 weeks of the season. Only the strong will survive this league.
Tiebreaker Rules
1. Head to Head
2. Most points in the Round currently playing
3. Most Wins in Round
4. Most Bang On's
5. Most Points in Overall Standings
6. Whatever
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Survivor Pools
Winner Pool - Select a winner each week. If they win you move onto the following week lose and you're out. The catch is that you cannot pick the team that you selected again for the balance of the season.
Loser Pool - Same as the winner pool but you select a team to lose. If you select a team to win in the winner pool you CAN select the same team to lose in the Loser pool.
The Second Chance Survivor Pool - Starting in Week 9 everybody will have another chance to win the Survivor Pool. This one is a little different though. You will have to choose a team to win AND a team to lose. You have to win BOTH to advance AND you have to select teams playing in separate games (can't pick a winner and loser that are playing each other) to move onto the next week and both those choices will be removed from your pick selection list.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The money breakdown will be up shortly as well once I determine the amount of poolsters and the breakdown of all the different prizes. (Click on Money Distribution link under Documents to the left for disbursements)
Gridiron Web Features14-Aug-20 10:51:23 AM
For all the standings for each individual category please click on the Display Results & Standings and click on the drop down box titled Select Standing Type. This will show you the standings for the Most Wins, Most Bang On's, Most Sunday night points, Most Monday night points, Best Dropped Week and the Thur Night Category. You can also select a year to reminisce how you fared in seasons past. The dropped week will come into play starting Week 2. When you notice that after Week 2 that only one week was recorded it is because you don't count your lowest week at seasons end. The Overall Standings will always calculate your total score minus your lowest week.
One of the newer features that Rae has installed on the web site is the Compare Player Picks link to the left. Use this feature to to see how you stack up against your opponent for the week. The games you have different will be bolded to easily see which games mean the most to win and view the results and compare how the spread points differ between the two sets of picks.
The Head 2 Head tourney starts Week 1 so click on Display Head 2 Head. Underneath the Cowboys picture there is a link titled Jump to my Name. Click on this link and it will show you where you are on the flow chart and it should be highlighted. Win you move on lose and your out.
Click on Display Survivor Results to see how you and others fared in the Dog Eat Dog world of the Survivor Pool.
Highlight your friends in your standings. Click on Edit Profile in the top right corner of the page. Select the Display Name or the Player name of your friend and then click on ADD FRIEND (I always forget that part). Once that is done they will be highlighted on your standings page as well. Select as many or as little as you want.
Survivor Rules14-Aug-14 12:26:42 PM
Once you get your password (which you only get once you pay) and click on Enter My Picks, you will notice at the top of the page a box with an arrow pointing to it titled Survivor Pick. Every week you will select a team to outright win the game. If they win you advance to the next week. If they lose then you are done for the season. That sounds easy enough, what’s the catch. The catch is you are only allowed to select a team once per season. Once you’ve selected a team you can no longer pick them so it gets tougher as you go along.
Your pick MUST be in before the deadline of Sunday at 9:55 PST. If you forget, you’re out of luck.
On the left side of the screen, click Display Survivor Results and you will be able to see the other Survivor picks 5 minutes prior to opening kickoff.
We also have a Loser Survivor Pool as well. Same as the picking the winner as in seasons past but this one who have to pick the losers.
The prize payout will be determined once the field of participants has been established. If more than 1 of you survive all 17 weeks you will split the prize pot between yourselves. If more than one of you are eliminated at the same time but are the last group remaining you will split the pot.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to fire off your questions and I would be happy to share them with the group.
